FOODS IN BANGLADESH
Bangladesh is a land of natural calamities. Storms, cyclones, tornadoes, tidal bores, etc. are very common here. The flood is one of the most dangerous natural calamities which visits Bangladesh annually.
The causes of flood are many. Excessive rainfall is the main cause of floods. The water of the rains cannot often flow quickly. As a result, the water inundates the banks and causes flood almost every year in our country. Cyclones, tidal bores, earthquakes and 'Ayla' also cause serious floods in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh is experienced with floods almost every year. But the most dangerous, floods visited in Bangladesh in the year of 1954, 1955, 1960, 1970, 1974, 1988, 1990, 1994 and 1998. The flood of 1998 broke all the records of the past. Thousands of people died during the flood. The standing crops, birds, wild animals, houses, roads, bridges and trees were seriously damaged. The communication was fully cut off during the terrible flood.
Flood causes a great havoc. It causes untold losses and sufferings to men and animals. Crops are damaged, trees are uprooted, and houses are washed away. People become landless, homeless and helpless. Roads and bridges are damaged. The normal life is greatly hampered. People suffer from various. diseases for want of pur Health and sanitation are terribly affected. Everywhere there is filth and dirt. Air is polluted and germs of various diseases spread. Many people are attacked with diarrhoea, dysentery, typhoid and cholera and they take away a heavy toll of human beings.
The government should adopt proper measures to control flood. The river beds should be excavated. But it is not enough. Proper embankments should be eonstructed to prevent the water of the Bay of Bengal. A net work of canals may be helpful.
Though flood has a lot of drawbacks, it does a great good to us in many ways. It makes our soil fertile which helps our farmers to grow better crops. It also washes away all kinds of toxic chemicals, dusts and wastes. After all, flood is a great curse.to our lile. So, proper steps should be taken to control flood drinking water. The prices of daily necessaries go up very high. for our greater interest and benefits.
