A STREET HAWKER
The person who sells various things moving from street to street is called a street hawker. A street hawker is a familiar figure in towns and rural areas. Usually he lives in a hut or in a slum. He carries his things sometimes on the head, sometimes in his hands and sometimes in a small hand-cart. A street hawker is seen mostly in the morning. Sometimes he sells newspapers. Sometimes he sells various items like tóys, clothes, fruits, vegetables, things of domestic uses and so on.
He is a clever fellow. He knows his business well but he can't earn both ends meet. He brings one kind of goods for children, another kind for women folk and yet another kind for men. Children are fond of him because sometimes he wears a strange dress, sings songs or plays on a flute. When he walks along roads and streets, he makes a peculiar shout to attract the attention of his customers. The children here and there gather around him and stop him to buy things according to their choice. A street hawker generally chooses an hour when the master of the family is away and the women are free from their household works. The service that a street hawker does to our society is great. He presents the goods that we need daily. Usually he selis his goods at cheaper rates. But somtimes he cheats simple customers. However, a street hawker lives from hand to mouth and leads a very simple .life: As a whole, a street hawker should not be neglected. We should respect him for his hard labour and never look down upon him.
